On Kitchen Nightmares, Gordon Ramsay enjoyed some of the foods from a few restaurants’ original menus, and the last to close down was Cafe Hon in April 2022.

Kitchen Nightmares is the 2007 culinary reality show that is the second original offering from the collaboration of Ramsay’s production team and Fox after the release and success of Hell’s Kitchen.

Kitchen Nightmares’ premise is, “Gordon Ramsay visits struggling restaurants across America and spends one week trying to help them become successful.”

As such, fans looked forward to hearing the fiery and personal digs that Ramsay is notorious for. But some of the biggest surprises were when he actually liked the restaurants’ foods, which happened more than once.

Gordon Ramsay Regrets Ending Kitchen Nightmares

Kitchen Nightmares ended abruptly in September 2014 after a somewhat disjointed season, which proved that the decision to end the show was not made by the channel, but by Ramsay.

By the time Ramsay decided to end the show, he had experienced backlash and several lawsuits over disgruntled restaurant owners who believed he caused the failure of their businesses.

By 2017, Ramsay regretted his decision, but the show will not return, as Ramsay moved on and started working on developing new culinary shows with Fox like Hotel Hell, which aired between 2012 and 2016.

When Did Gordon Ramsay Like The Food On Kitchen Nightmares?

Fans who loved watching Kitchen Nightmares enjoyed Gordon Ramsay’s first visit to the restaurant the most.

Besides his comments on the usually deplorable state of the kitchen and sometimes the restaurant itself, it was his comments on the food that fans looked forward to.

In most cases, Ramsay did not like the food, and in some instances this was intensified by the fact that the food made him sick to his stomach. But every now and then, Ramsay surprised fans and himself when he actually enjoyed dishes that he ordered from the original menu prior to his intervention.

Unfortunately, for those who may have been considering visiting these restaurants to taste the dishes that Ramsay liked, they will not be able to, since none of the restaurants in question are still operational in 2022.

This follows after Cafe Hon closed in April 2022.

Cafe Hon featured on the culinary reality format show during the fifth season of Kitchen Nightmares. Specifically, from the menu, Ramsay complimented the crab cake from the restaurant.

However, he was not complimentary about the rest of the food he ordered, which included a bland ‘Much Better than Mom’s Meatloaf’ served with raw broccoli along with the dry fish and greasy chips he got when he ordered an English-style fish and chips.

The other restaurants Ramsay liked for different dishes that they served have all closed down since.

Gordon Ramsay visited a number of restaurants that served seafood and protein dishes. He did not even attempt to eat most, or he got physically sick from the food when he did.

There were some restaurants that served seafood meals he enjoyed even before introducing his changes in the overall look and offerings of the restaurants in question.

The list includes:

Kitchen Nightmares’ restaurants Ramsay rated for desserts

From the seven seasons of the show, Gordon Ramsay seemed to have loved the dessert menus from the restaurants the most.

More than any other type of dishes, restaurants were mostly complimented for their desserts.

The Only Restaurant That Got Gordon Ramsay’s Approval On Kitchen Nightmares

Throughout the seven-season run of Kitchen Nightmares, Gordon Ramsay was only a fan of one restaurant’s entire food menu, of course that does not mean that Ramsay did not make any changes to it in terms of plating.

Momma Cherri’s Soul Food Shack is the one restaurant that earned Ramsay’s approval.

During the episode, Ramsay had catfish goujons with homemade pineapple salsa, and the main dish was a soul food dish of ribs, chicken, and succotash. The restaurant closed down in 2018, over a decade after its appearance on the show.
