What happened to Brent and Afni MacDonald after Hotel Hell

Published

on

Brent and Afni MacDonald ended up selling Lakeview Hotel about five years after they were profiled on Hotel Hell.

The acclaimed chef and restaurateur, Gordon Ramsay, has come face-to-face with quite a few stubborn business owners through the years.

But only a few owners have made an impression quite like Brent and his wife Afni MacDonald, the owners of Lakeview Hotel from Hotel Hell’s final season.

What happened after the Hotel Hell episode

Ramsay and these struggling owners bumped heads over just about everything from cleaning services to what “fresh” means in this episode.

And unfortunately, it seems like this chaos continued after the episode and Lakeview Hotel continued to struggle, and eventually closed its doors in 2021.

Brent and Afni did not elaborate on the reasons for the hotel’s closure and since neither of them have any kind of public presence on social media, there is no telling what they have been up to in the last few years.

However, it seems as though Azzia MacDonald, Brent and Afni’s daughter who was briefly mentioned during this episode, became quite an impressive varsity volleyball player.

According to a video that she posted on her TikTok account a while ago, Brent still seems to be doing well, despite the fact that the Lakeview Hotel ended up closing.

The MacDonalds’ history with Lakeview Hotel

The MacDonalds certainly went through some difficult times with their hotel before during and after the Hotel Hell episode, but all in all, they managed to keep Lakeview Hotel in business for over 20 years

It seems as though the MacDonalds reverted back to their old ways

It is certainly not rare for the owners of the establishments featured on Hotel Hell to revert back to their old ways of doing things after Ramsay and his filming crew have town.

But Brent remains one of only a few owners featured on the series who flat-out refused one of Ramsay’s suggestions during the episode.

And one TripAdvisor review from September of 2016 (after this Hotel Hell episode had already aired) mentions that Brent never ended up reconsidering his decision not to allow children at the hotel, even though Ramsay explained why he thought this needed to change.

Not only that, but some of the hotel’s post-Hotel Hell reviews also seem to indicate that Brent had reverted back to not treating his patrons very well and re-iterate many of the same issues that Ramsay experienced during his visit, including the hotel being filthy and its lack of year-round valet-services.

Brent and Afni did not like how they were portrayed on the series

It was evident throughout this episode of Hotel Hell that Ramsay and the MacDonalds simply did not see eye-to-eye about what had to change at the hotel.

And it seems like Brent’s opinion about Ramsay and the show did not change, even after the episode aired.

Brent told the Yakima Herald in 2016 that they purposefully played things up for the cameras, because they knew that the producers wanted drama, but ended up regretting this decision later on.

He said, “We should have known better…They owned us.” The MacDonalds also tried to explain their decision to discard so many of Ramsay’s changes, arguing that their decision to change the name of their restaurant worked out very well, adding “Gordon doesn’t understand this area.”

The hotel that took Lakeview Hotel’s place

The hotel that opened in the former Lakeview Hotel location after the latter closed down, is called The Landing Chelan.

And while Brent and Afni may not have wanted to take Gordon’s advice on board, it seems like this new hotel’s owners have.

The Landing has kept the buzz-worthy ice-cream parlor, which Gordon and his team upgraded during his visit, and they have also retained the local wine list.

This new hotel also features a brand-new Medi-Spa and seems to have a renewed commitment to creating a “customer and community-focused business”.

Moreover, the business seems to be doing quite well, as The Landing was voted “Business of the Year” by the Chamber of Commerce in Chelan in October 2023.
