Meanwhile, the Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) has confirmed the death of one of its students who was struck by lightning last week.
In a statement, the university said Mpumezi Mndwentywa was a third-year student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
MUT Dean of Students Dr Thembi Kweyama said severe thunderstorms caused a fire which affected some of the rooms on the third floor of its off-campus residents in Glenwood. Mndwetywa was reportedly asleep when he was struck by lightning. He succumbed to the burns he sustained.
