Louis Cato, the bandleader of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, missed the 8 November episode of the show, because he was ill with the coronavirus.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert first aired in its current format in 2015, and it has gained a loyal following of fans who continue to tune in to this day.

Louis Cato is the leader of  the band on the show, but was missing from the 8 November 2022 episode, because he was resting to recover from the coronavirus.

About The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

The Late Show originally aired in 1993 with David Letterman as the host, however, on 8 September 2015, Stephen Colbert officially took over as host of the show.

Initially, Stephen had huge expectations to live up to, not only in that he had to fill David letterman’s shoes, but also in terms of upping the ante from his previous successful show, The Colbert Report.

Fortunately, Stephen Colbert put his own spin on the show by bringing his signature quick comedy to the interviews and skits with the various actors, musicians, and other celebrities that feature on the show.

As with most other shows, The Late Show took a hit in terms of production in 2020 when the COVID-19 regulations were in full swing.

Fortunately, the show is slowly starting to return to normalcy with over 2 million viewers tuning in to watch the show as recently as October 2022.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert: Where is Louis Cato?

Although many fans of The Late Show tune in to watch Stephen Colbert’s signature charisma, satire, and commentary, many fans also love the band on the show.

Because of the popularity of this band, fans quickly picked up on the fact that the band’s frontman, Louis Cato, was missing from the 8 November 2022 episode of the show.

Aside from his role on the show, Louis is an extremely talented and accomplished musician who has worked with big names in the music industry in his career, including Jon Batiste, who founded this band called “Stay Human” on the show.

Fortunately, Louis addressed his absence on the show before fans could get too worked up about where he had gone and what was changing, announcing in an Instagram post on 8 November that he was ill with the coronavirus and needed some rest to recover.

Although illness is no trifling matte, fans can rest assured that Louis’s absence from the show is temporary and that he will most likely return as soon as it is safe for him to do so again.

Louis Cato’s music career outside of The Late Show

When he is not being featured as the bandleader on The Late Show, Carolina-native, Louis Cato can most likely be found on a plane, in a tour bus, or in a recording studio working on his next musical collaboration.

Louis completed his musical education at the Berklee College of Music, and he has worked hard to make his music career as successful as it is and has even been nominated for a Grammy award.

Louis is not only known for playing multiple instruments and being an award-winning producer and writer, but also for touring with some of the biggest names in the music industry, like Bobby McFerrin, Snarky Puppy, Marcus Miller, and more.

He has also recorded with famous artists such as Beyoncé, Q-tip, John Legend, and Mariah Carey.

How long has Louis Cato been on the show?

Louis has not been fronting the band on The Late Show for very long. He first joined the show as the leader of the band in August of 2022, after it was announced that the previous band leader, Jon Batiste, would be departing from the show.

However, before this, Louis had joined Jon on the show as a member of Stay Human on occasion and has even filled in for Jon as bandleader in the past when he was unable to make the show, like in the summer of 2022, just before Jon left the show permanently.

From how Louis has described his experience as frontman so far, it seems as though he is genuinely enjoying this new challenge and the opportunity to work with the other musicians on the show so far.

What else did Louis say in his Instagram post?

In the Instagram post in which Louis announced that he was resting as a result of having the coronavirus, he also uploaded a cover of “I’ll Be There,” which is originally from the Jackson 5.

Louis regularly uploads covers of  songs on his Instagram page and he seemed to be in high spirits during this performance.
