Makhadzi took to Twitter on Wednesday, 19 May 2021, to confirm that she submitted her music for consideration by the South African Music Awards (SAMAs). The SAMAs 27 nominations announcement took place that evening, hosted by Siphesihle Vazi and Rorisang Thandekiso. Makhadzi, during the nomination announcement, was snubbed across the board.

Fans of the TshiVenda-speaking musician then took to Twitter to air their grievances about her continued snubbing. Similarly, there was much uproar last year when Makhadzi and Master KG were snubbed. Master KG, at the time, had just released one of the biggest songs in the world, Jerusalema, featuring Nomcebo Zikode, but could not get a nod from the organisation.

However, Makhadzi may still be announced as a nominee when the Record of The Year and Music Video of The Year nominees are announced. The announcement is set to be made on SABC 1’s Live AMP on Friday, 21 May 2021, at 19:30.
