Coronation Street fans, or Corries as they are popularly referred to, were afraid for the fate of one of the longest-lasting actresses and beloved characters of the soapie, Sally Dynevor in the role of Sally Metcalfe.

Coronation Street is not only the longest-running soap opera in England, but it is widely regarded as the longest-running soapie in the world.

This is a record it continues to hold as it has been airing since 1960, with this year marking the sixty-second year since the show first premiered on ITV.

Coronation Street was created by the acclaimed screenwriter, Tony Warren, and the premise of the soapie is, “…Coronation Street focuses on the everyday lives of working-class people in Manchester, England.”

Coronation Street Saves Sally Dynevor

The popular saying that life imitates art, was never truer than it was when Coronation Street saved actress, Sally Dynevor’s life.

This is because in 2009, Dynevor’s character, Sally, played a storyline where the character discovered that she had breast cancer.

The storyline inspired Dynevor to have her breasts examined and discovered that she, too, had breast cancer. She took time off to fight cancer and six months later, returned to reprise her role.

Moreover, to mark 10 years of being cancer-free, Sally completed the hike to Mount Everest Base Camp.

Seemingly, Coronation Street holds a special place in Sally Dynevor’s heart.

Reflecting on how the show saved her life, the actress stated, “It was unbelievable. It’s a period in my life that I can’t quite believe happened. We always say that life mirrors art in Corrie but it was really strange. I just refer to it as a blip. We have to move on.”

Final Thoughts

Coronation Street’s Sally Dynevor, in the role of Sally Metcalfe, is not going anywhere, if the actress that has been with the soapie for 36 years has anything to say about it.

This is as speculation on whether she would leave the soapie or not was rife when news of her being cast as part of Dancing On Ice was publicized.

But Dynevor made it clear that she is not leaving the soapie. However, she will be juggling both responsibilities. As a result, she might occasionally be absent from the world of the story, but after her appearance on Dancing On Ice, she will return to her role permanently.
