CCMA encourages use of whistleblower hotline

The CCMA is continuing to encourage the use of its hotline to report fraud and corruption suspicions, after recently introducing a WhatsApp number and active chat box on the website.

The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) took to Twitter on Monday, 18 January 2021, to encourage the use of its fraud and corruption hotline. At the beginning of the year, the commission introduced the amended hotline number.

Moreover, the CCMA also introduced new channels of communication to the two primary channels, which were previously the hotline number and email address. The new additions include a WhatsApp number and a pop-up chat box on its website. All the provided channels of communication are said to protect the anonymity of the whistleblower.

The post did not clarify whether whistleblowers are also being encouraged to report COVID-19 Temporary Employer-Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) fraud, or whether that should be reported directly to the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF). The UIF is currently embarking on COVID-19 TERS investigations, therefore, contacting the government’s subdivision is advisable.
